XYIENCE Power to Win Athlete: Triathlete
Jennifer Turchin’s love of sustainability led her to competing in triathlons. The licensed architect views health and sustainability as highly intertwined and dedicates much of her time to improving both.
In 2011, Turchin started competing in triathlons and half marathons as a new challenge and was hooked. Since 2011, she has completed 12 half marathons, multiple sprint and Olympic triathlons and two half Ironman triathlons. In 2013, she put in some of her best performances of her career, earning an Age Group 1st place at the “Your Cause Sports” Sprint Triathlon at Lake Mead in May 2014 and an Age Group 1st place at the “Kokopelli” Olympic triathlon at St George Utah in September 2013. Training an average of 12- 20 hours a week to maintain her performance levels, she’s current preparing for her first full Ironman.
On top of her grueling training schedule, Turchin is an award-winning sustainability consultant and architect. In 2013, she was awarded the American Institute of Architects Western Mountain Region Young Architect, which is given to an Architect who has been licensed less than ten years but has made significant contributions to the profession of architecture and to the larger community. In 2014, she was awarded the Las Vegas Business Press Green Award in the category of Best Green Practices in an Advocacy Role. She rounds out her busy schedule owning and operating a small architecture firm with her husband that focuses on small sustainable-minded projects.
