Stout was at Westminster secondary school to take part in the Roar For The Floor, the official kickoff to the fundraising campaign for a new gym floor. Six teams of students, cheered on by 550 of their schoolmates who bought tickets at $4 each, were joined by the likes of Stout, fellow MMA fighter Chris Clements, Hamilton Tiger-Cats running back Daryl Stevenson, London Sports Science Lab sports trainer Carter Walls and five of London's finest in a series of oddball relay competitions capped off by a mass dodgeball game."A couple of them got me," Stout, who was besieged for autographs and pictures for more than a half-hour after the event ended, said with a grin. "I didn't last too long in that dodgeball game. They were gunning for me."
Stout was also his team's "mannequin" for a crazy dress competition and he ended up wearing, among other things, a dress and pink sash. And he enjoyed every minute of it.
"It was a good time and for a good cause and I'm looking forward to seeing my Facebook page tomorrow," he said. "I'm always on board to help youth athletics. It seems like sometimes funds don't get distributed evenly and it's really great to see a school taking initiative like this."
Stout, Clements and Stevenson were brought to the event by Walls, who's a good friend of Westminster athletic director Michelle Lange. And Walls got some of the biggest cheers of the day when he planted a big kiss on principal Sheila Powell. The $2,200 raised in ticket sales, coupled with three cheque presentations totalling $4,600, puts the campaign passed the $80,000 mark, with a lot of that due to about $34,000 raised a few years ago and a $30,000 commitment from the Thames Valley board. The goal is $230,000.
